There is a lot of concern in Cedar Rapids area and throughout the State of Iowa that mandated sprinkler systems in new residential construction will have a negative effect in the housing markets. In time, the requirements would trickle down in time to all housing, when certain remodeling occurs. The impact on new construction would increase the costs of new construction making home affordablity more challanging, through highest costs, qualifications and higher prices in property insurance.

NFPA research has proven that home fire sprinkler requirements to not impact housing cost or supply. On the contrary, when communities with and without requirements were compared the opposite is true. Read the full report here:

Another study revealed that the price of a home fire sprinkler system built to NFPA 13D standards averaged $1.61 a square sprinklered foot. Home buyers pay much more than that for granite counter tops and whirlpool baths. Read that report here: http://www.nfpa.org/assets/files//PDF/Research/FireSprinklerCostAssessment.pdf
Home fire sprinklers save lives.
