Happy Cinco de Mayo and Happy Birthday ...

Yes, it is May 5Th, my brother's birthday. Of course, it is also Cinco de Mayo!

Tonight, I attended the first meeting of the Charter Review Commission. It is nice to join Nancy Bruner again on a commission. Nancy and I served on the original Home Rule Charter Commission, back in 2004-05. For more information on our form of government in Cedar Rapids.

If you have any comments for the Commission, please feel free to let us know, as we work to develop the process that will be used for the Charter Review.

It's nice to welcome the Month of May 2011.

We celebrate some enjoyable occassions throughout the month of May. Many will enjoy high school and college graduations. We enjoyed that in 2010, with a middle school and high school event. Our oldest graduated from college in December 2010.

May 1 - Happy May Day

May 2 - Rotary Club of Cedar Rapids will enjoy breakout meetings

May 3 - National Teachers Day

May 5 - Cinco De Mayo, as well as my brother's birthday

May 5 - the Charter Review Commission will begin formal work for City

May 5 - National Day of Prayer - always the first Thursday in May each year

May 6 - TGIF - first Friday in the month of May

May 8 - Mother's Day and my birthday (Harry S. Truman was also born on this date)

May 9 - My father's birthday

May 12 - Nurses Day

I am a proponent for Limited Spending, Limited Government, Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. I ran for District 2 Cedar Rapids in 2007. I want to see unity develop again in our community. Cedar Rapids is a community. Most wouldn't consider our community Rural, but to suggest it's Urban would be wrong. My parents are I.L. "Tommy" and LaVerne Tucker, who met at Coe College, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. My parents were married at the former Central Park church in Cedar Rapids. My parents celebrated their 60Th wedding anniverary in January of 2009. Also, I have a older sister and a brother.

I attended the Cedar Rapids Community Schools and am a graduate of George Washington Senior High School. I graduated from Creighton University, College of Business Administration, as an accounting major.

I am a 3rd generation resident of the City of Five Seasons. I am a married to my wife, Carole. We met at Creighton University, in Omaha, Nebraska. We have three children.

I worked previously in public accounting in Omaha, before I returned with my wife to my hometown to join my father and mother in business.

I am a strong fan of college football, including the Unversity of Iowa, among other programs. In college basketball, I follow my Creighton Jays and the Iowa Hawkeyes; among other programs in the The Valley, the Big Ten, and the Big 12 ...
