It's great to see Emil's Deli re-opened after the Flood of 2008... Healing in the Heartland

After my Rotary Club meeting today, I went over to the US Bank Building in Downtown Cedar Rapids to see the re-opened and better than ever Emil's Deli, located in the basement of the US Bank-Downtown. Emil's Deli officially re-opened today, June 8, 2009. I think the last time I ate at Emil's was 365 days ago, June 8, 2008, if memory serves me right.

It was great to see David Allick, the owner of Emil's Deli, with a smile on his face. His friendly staff were all back too.

Congratulations to David and everyone at Emil's Deli! A favorite for Carole and I for lunch. David has brought two new sandwiches: the Hawkeye and a Cuban. It was sad to know all his original Hawkeye memorabilia was destroyed by the flood, but his Hawkeye twist is back up in the newly remodeled restaurant.

Congratulations to Emil's II, as well that opened in May. David's son, Nathan, is the third generation of Allick's with restaurants, after David's father, Emil, began the original. David runs the original and now Nathan as a second location.
